Correct me if I’m wrong – best corrector out there

Corrector or concealer is a truly essential makeup item. Why? Well, for starters, only girls in photos and in cartoons have flawless skin. I mean, we are human, and as perfect as we are in our own way, there’s almost always something I, for one, would like to hide from the eyes of everyone around me. Why concealer and not base? I’ll tell you why. First, it’s fast. My skin is in a good enough condition, where I don’t need full coverage all over. I just want to hide minor imperfections and get going. Also, as opposed to base all over, my skin breathes with concealer. Because whatever everyone says, skin doesn’t really breathe or breathe enough through full on base and powder.

As usual, before saying which concealer I consider to be the best, it’s worth stating, what is it I’m looking for in a concealer? First, it has to be soft. I really hate harsh textures almost anywhere in makeup – lip colour, eyeshadow, eyeliner, none of it should be too harsh on the skin. It’s hard to apply it, when it’s too firm. On the other hand, there’s a limit to how soft it can be, when it’s too soft, it snaps and breaks and goes all over the place. So, let’s just say, it should be soft enough. Also, it should have good coverage. I mean, concealer MUST conceal and hide. That’s what its function is, so half transparent concealers kind of puzzle me. Well, the only usage I can kind of imagine for those is to cover dark circles under the eyes, and even then if it’s too transparent, it’s not going to do the job.

The third thing that really matters to me in a concealer is, of course, the shade. As ridiculous as it sounds, with all the variety of makeup there’s out there, it’s hard for me to hit the right shade. The shade I’m looking for is beige leaning towards pink, not towards brown, not towards white, and not towards yellow, God forbid, which seems to cover the majority of concealer shades on the market.

Having said all that and tried all kind of concealers, to me the best one out there is YSL Anti-Cernes.

Generally speaking, YSL is not my favourite makeup brand by far. I like some things in their range, but not all. But somehow in concealer area YSL just went ahead and nailed it. This concealer to me is perfect.

It comes in a stick form, it’s creamy and nice, soft and firm enough at the same time. Provides really good coverage without looking too thick and unnatural on skin. Love it. My shade – pink beige which is what I’m always looking for – is 2.

In fact, it’s so perfect, if I’m in a hurry I can just use it all over on certain areas and get on the run.

No scent. And that’s another requirement I have, when it comes to makeup.

To put it simply, this is it. It took me a long time to find it, but once I found it, whatever else I may try, never beats it. It’s great.

P.S. Oh, and if you’re looking for illuminating kind of concealer to cover up dark circles under your eyes or whatever, once again YSL with their Touche Eclat is absolutely the best, in my opinion. You can read a fuller review of it and see swatches in my post called YSL Rock Resille swatched, if you like.
