Matt nail polish top coat versus matt nail polish

I’m no big fan of matt effect in nail polish. I prefer more classical mirror shine. Although some shades do look good in matt texture. Say, Givenchy had a good yellow and a pink limited edition matt shades this spring. Still I don’t use matt shades much. The idea of a flat or matt top coat appeals to me though because of how versatile it is. That is, with a matt top coat I can make any – just any shade – matt as opposed to looking for the right shade in matt texture. So, when Chanel released their matt top coat this fall – I have a review for it in my Chanel Les Automnales collection fall 2015 swatched post, if you want more detail, I was excited to try it.

Once I did it, I had a chance to compare just matt nail polish effect to matt top coat effect, and I have to say, as much as I love the idea of using a top coat on any shade, it creates this effect by means of topping the nail colour with a kind of blurry coat. It kind of changes shade a little bit and although it makes the colour matt, I do prefer very much matt nail polish shades, where the technology of making them matt, is different. So, this blurry effect is not there, and the colours stay vibrant, only they don’t have the gloss to them, that we’re generally used to seeing in nail colour.

So, despite the inconvenience of having to look for each shade you want to be matt separately, as opposed to using one top coat on the shades you already have, I’d definitely go for matt nail polish. Trust me, it’s worth it. And I’m always happy, when there’s a reason for me to get more nail polish – or, honestly, makeup in general. So, I’m going to do just that. Big time 🙂

P.S. If you want to see yellow matt Givenchy Jaune Expression swatches, see my post called YSL 62 Jaune Babouche, I compared this shade to Jaune Expression there. And, of course, another favourite of mine in matt texture nail shade world is leather textured stunning nail shade from the latest Armani Runway collection. You can see that one, if you want, in my post called Armani Runway spring/summer 2015 makeup collection swatched.
