Ok, so here goes another promise of colour & care all in one swipe. You know how I feel about doing two in one in makeup. It works only rarely. I prefer when one thing – colour or care – is done well, or else, when it’s done great. But… this time around this promise is made by Bobbi Brown, so we’d better take it seriously 🙂 Especially as Bobbi Brown has already pulled it not too long ago in Luxe Lip Color range. For more details on that, please, see here Bobbi Brown Luxe Lip Color Raspberry Pink 11 swatched
Back to Nourishing Lip Color by Bobbi Brown. It looks like it’s going to be sheer, and you know how much I love sheer lip colour, so I’m all excited and keeping my fingers crossed hoping it’s going to be good.
It comes in a classically Bobbi Brown black boxing with white lettering. Only this boxing is thinner than classic lip colour boxing. Another indication that the formula might be sheer. Sheer lipstick comes in thinner tubes most of the times. We’ll see though. Also, there’s a promise of nourishment made here and a statement that this lipstick is oil infused. I’ll keep it in mind.
The shade is called Bright Raspberry. No number. Huh? No shade number?
In case you are sensitive to any makeup ingredients or just curious, here’s what Nourishing Lip Color by Bobbi Brown is made of.
The tubing is black and gold (in the middle) with Bobbi Brown logo in white. It’s this thin lipstick tube kind that always excites me. I can’t even tell you why exactly, but it does.
And here’s this thinner cute little lipstick itself.
The shade looks all purple pink. Very raspberrish indeed.
Before we go to the shade though and see it in more details, let’s talk about the formula. What it’s like, how it feels, whether the promises made are kept. For starters, there’s a little bit of a scent to it that goes away almost immediately once you’re done applying your shade of Nourishing Lip Color by Bobbi Brown. This scent is different than the sweet sour scent in Luxe Lip Color by Bobbi Brown. Nourishing Lip Color instead has this lemonade like scent to it that Bobbi Brown lip gloss has oftentimes, not all of it, some variations of it though. The scent is on the weaker side and disappears pretty fast, almost immediately once the lipstick is all settled on your lips. I’m scent sensitive, but this scent is rather pleasant, and as it doesn’t linger on the lips, it didn’t bother me. So, I hope it won’t bother you.
Now, as long as I mentioned application here, let me tell you this. I do have an issue with it. I can’t say this issue hindered the application, it’s more of an aesthetic thing and a matter of taste, I guess. This formula is very soft, too soft almost, so that, when I’m applying this lipstick, bits and pieces of it keep snapping off like crazy. They don’t get on my lips and ruin my look, but they do stay on the lipstick tubing inside and outside and create a not too pretty looking mess there. I wipe this tube with a tissue every time I apply this lipstick, but I can’t help thinking – what if I wind up somewhere, where I just won’t have a tissue at hand? What do I do then? Conclusion – I should always have a tissue with me, which I do most of the times, still it’s a pity this formula has this snapping off tendency to it. It’s not too bad though, I can live with it, as long as I have that tissue. And as long as the lipstick proves to be good.
Here’s some very very good news though. This formula does feel great on my lips. It by all means is infused with oil or whatever it is that makes it very comforting and pleasing. Good job, Bobbi Brown. Very nice. It’s soft and caring and soothing and everything you want on your lips. At the same time, it’s not this super heavy kind of thing, that you feel like all the time big time, it’s pretty light feeling, in fact. So, there is actually something there, something in it, in this formula, oil or something that makes it feel so-o good. Colour & care – mission impossible but accomplished, believe it or not. Here’s what you definitely need to know about this formula though. It’s not sheer. Or else, on the lips it’s not 🙂 It’s shiny though. Ever so shiny. It’s a very interesting mix of full coverage, full on colour and then all the shine in the world. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen something quite like it. And that almost never happens, because I’ve tried all kind of makeup 🙂
The result of this colour and shine wrapped all in one and topped one with another is spectacular, dazzling, unusual, bold and simply awesome. There’s so much colour and so much shine in this small little black tube of lipstick you are not going to believe it. The effect is striking and can turn your lips into a dangerous weapon and turn your casual and relaxed look into the ultimate vampy and hot kind of thing. And if you dare and wear this lipstick with a little black dress and high heels, I don’t even know what’s going to happen 🙂 It will almost be too hot. Seriously, the finish in Nourishing Lip Color by Bobbi Brown is lush and beautiful. If you like shine in lip colour and are not afraid of bright colours, you’re in for a treat. Oh, and I guess you could try to go very light on it on the lips and make it sheer, but just so you know, the colour there builds very fast, so it’s a high mountain to climb. I say – just go all the way with all the colour and all the shine in it. Why not? It’s cool.
And now we’re going to talk shade 🙂 I still don’t understand why it doesn’t have a number attached to it, but never mind for the moment. The shade is called Bright Raspberry and once you see it, it makes sense. It’s a bright purple pink or pink purple depending on your colour perception, on the light you’re in and on which of the two colours you’re prone to see more in lip colour. The shade is vibrant, full of life and energy, womanly, sexy, calling for action and hot dates. It’s very well balanced in terms of purple and pink, so that it will look good on a lot of people. It’s a cooler shade. And the kind of shade where you could see several things and several colours in it. You could say it raspberry. It makes sense. Some people will see fuchsia in it though. And then you could also make an argument that it’s purple and almost plum like. What it is in reality, is a combination of all of the above wrapped in one lip shade. Clever. Still, it’s close enough to classic raspberry shades, where you could wear it to work and then proceed to your hot date.
All in all, I love this lipstick. I love the way it looks. I love the way it feels. Don’t appreciate the bits snapping off, but I’ll take it, because everything else is so great. And I love, love and love the shine. Usually there’s not enough shine for me in lip colour formulae, this one here definitely has enough. This shine is so invigorating, so energizing and so happy in its essence. Worth a smile, at least, I’d say 🙂
I compared here the three raspberry shades by Bobbi Brown in three different formulae and textures. Luxe Lip Color, Nourishing Lip Color and Art Stick.
Luxe Lip Color is a classically cream lip colour formula with an extra element of care in it that’s as present as the care element in Nourishing Lip Color.
Art Stick is a matt colour formula that’s universal and can be applied on your lips and cheeks alike. It doesn’t have any care element to it.
The shades I’m looking at here together with Nourishing Lip Color in Bright Raspberry is Luxe Lip Color in Raspberry Pink 11
and Art Stick in Bright Raspberry 8.
See? It’s all Raspberry here 🙂
Luxe Lip Color boxing is black with white lettering, only it’s thicker than that of Nourishing Lip Color.
The tubing in Luxe Lip Color is thicker, classic lipstick like and gold.
And it has a heraldic Bobbi Brown logo on top of the cap.
Art Stick comes in black boxing with white lettering, the boxing is longer and bigger.
And then it’s shaped like a pencil.
The texture in Luxe Lip Colour is classic lipstick like, soothing and caring, pretty light though. It’s full on coverage with a little bit of a satiny sheen about it that we’ve come to expect from classic cream lip colour.
Art Stick is matt with just a touch of sheen to it. No lip care here. It dries your lips a little, as most matt textures do, even the best ones. So, you might wanna prep your lips by applying lip balm or something first. Just don’t use too much of it, or else you’ll dilute the matt finish and get more of sheer colour thing instead.
In terms of shade, Nourishing Lip Color in Bright Raspberry is the best balance of pink and purple. It has the two colours in equal or almost equal proportion in it. It looks most sheer in the swatch, but keep in mind what I told you above, it’s full coverage on the lips and full on shine.
Luxe Lip Color in Raspberry Pink 11 is the most pink of the three. It’s cool and has some fuchsia or purple in it, true, still it’s much more pink than the other two lip colour kinds by Bobbi Brown here.
Art Stick in Bright Raspberry 8 has the most purple in it of our batch. You could say it’s a very cool pink or fuchsia easily, if that’s what your colour perception is telling you, still purple is clearly dominating the scene here.
Please, see all three swatched side by side, so that you could detect the difference in textures, finishes and… well, shades. Left to right: Nourishing Lip Color in Bright Raspberry, Luxe Lip Color in Raspberry Pink 11 and Art Stick in Bright Raspberry 8.
That’s what my encounter with Bobbi Brown Nourishing Lip Color in Bright Raspberry is like. A very pleasant encounter, I must say. At the moment there are sixteen shades in Nourishing Lip Color range. I’m going to try more shades. And I hope this range will get wider, so that I could enjoy the amazing feel and shiny colourful look of this lipstick on more than one occasion. And that distant lemonade like scent. I’ll tell you what I want to have in this range. I want pinks. More pinks. For starters, I like them. I mean, who doesn’t? Well, Ok, Ok, some people don’t, but a lot of us do. They are so versatile. Also, I just think pinks specifically will look at their best with all the shine there is in this formula. At the same time, pinks aren’t reds, you know, so the dazzling shine there is in Bobbi Brown Nourishing Lip Color is not going to push them off the cliff and over the top. Although, to tell you the truth, I’ll take any colours that come in this finish. And, maybe, just maybe, some of them won’t snap off so easily. We’ll have to wait and see 🙂
P.S. This formula is so nice I’m not even sorry it’s not really sheer on the lips. And that alone tells you a whole lot about Bobbi Brown Nourishing Lip Color 🙂
